Overview

Our client, a prominent biofuel producer, is seeking a Director of Logistics to oversee the logistics operations for the annual supply of 200,000 tonnes of raw material from commercial forest plantations to the production plant and the subsequent export of solid fuel to international markets. This critical role encompasses managing extensive logistical operations across the northern region of the country and requires someone with proven and successful experience, ideally in large-scale wood supply or similar complex operations.

Challenges you would face

  • Oversee the procurement and transportation of raw materials (wood) from various sources to the pellet plant, ensuring a steady and efficient supply flow
  • Negotiate with transportation service providers and equipment suppliers (trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery)
  • Develop strategies to optimize the supply chain, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency
  • Coordinate with wood suppliers and transporters to ensure timely delivery and product quality
  • Manage the logistics functions at the port terminal in Barranquilla, including the delivery of finished products
  • Lead and supervise logistics staff in supply zones, port, and company offices
  • Manage wood inventories and develop contingency plans to prevent production disruptions
  • Analyze performance data and market trends to make informed supply chain management decisions
  • Ensure compliance with governmental and environmental regulations related to transport and wood management

The ideal candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in complex logistics and supply chain management, preferably in the wood or forest products industry
  • Experience in managing heavy cargo transportation operations and coordinating multiple suppliers
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Excel and strong analytical skills to optimize transport routes, inventory, and operational costs
  • Deep knowledge of cargo transportation regulations and customs documentation in the specific geographic area
  • Experience in using supply chain management software and data analysis tools
